Andrew Casale

Description:
Andy Casale and his wife have lived in the Brittonkill district for 23 years and have been married for 25 years.  They have two children that attended and graduated from Tamarac.  Both have gone on to college. Andy’s wife works as a physical therapy assistant and he works in the engineering field.  For the past 25 years he has worked as an on-site engineer for various types of construction projects. He has been involved in athletics at Tamarac for 7 years as a volunteer coach for football and baseball.  Andy felt that being on the board was an opportunity to do more for district.  He really enjoys being involved in something that has the potential to help the Brittonkill community.  He is hopeful that some of his professional experience can be of assistance with the building projects planned in the district.

Mike FortunMichael Fortun, President

Description:
Michael Fortun is from the Pittsburgh, PA area, where his father and older brother both taught English in public high schools. He was an undergraduate physics major at RPI for three years, eventually getting his BA from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA in 1982. Between various jobs and graduate school, he has lived in Washington, DC, San Francisco and the Boston area. Fortun is a historian of science and has taught at RPI since 1999, when he first moved to the school district. His wife Kim is a cultural anthropologist who also teaches at RPI. They have two daughters at Tamarac, Kora and Lena.

GalipeauDarren Galipeau

Description:
Darren Galipeau and his wife have lived in the District for 48 years. He has four children, two are currently attending Tamarac, and have experienced many of the exceptional opportunities that our school has to offer. He served on the School Board from 2008 to 2010. During his time time on the Board he found it to be challenging but also very rewarding. Galipeau believes that in this time of fiscal challenges we can make a difference, if we work together for the best interests of all involved, our students, tax payers, and staff. Together we can and will “Make a difference.”

Margaret McCarthyMargaret McCarthy

Description:
Having spent twenty years in the field of education, Margaret McCarthy holds a MS in Reading Education, a BS in Elementary Education and Psychology and an AAS in the business field. Now retired, she worked as a Reading Teacher in Brunswick (Brittonkill), and in early literacy, family literacy and adult education programs. Prior to her career in education, she spent twenty-four years working in hospital administrative positions. Her husband, Edward, is the CEA at the Watervliet Arsenal. They have two children, Moira, who is an Orthopedic Surgeon in New York City, doing a fellowship in Sports Medicine working with the NY Giants. Their son, Edward, and his wife Sara, also live in Manhattan. Edward is employed by the Bank of Montreal and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Fordham University.

Jack RoddyJack Roddy

Description:
Jack Roddy and his wife Pam have resided in Brunswick for 32 years and have been married for 33 years. Roddy is Director of Sales and Marketing at The Desmond Hotel and Conference Center. He is also a member of NENY chapter of Meeting Professionals International, Secretary of The Albany Kiwanis Club, parishioner of St. Ambrose Church in Latham and was elected to the Brunswick School Board in May 2013. Roddy has three children and one grandchild; John married to Angelica and their daughter Carly, Caitlin and Aaron who is in ninth grade at Tamarac. John graduated from Catholic High and earned a master’s degree in reading from St. Rose. Caitlin graduated from Catholic High and holds a bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Mary College. Roddy is enthusiastic to serve the community in the upcoming years.

Leah WertzLeah Wertz
Term: July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2019

Description:
Leah Wertz is a lifelong educator who has devoted her career to children and young adults. With a collegiate background in Communications, English Education, Counseling and Administration, Leah has been educated and employed in the public sector. She is currently a school counselor and has nearly 30 years of experience in schools in New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. She and her husband John have lived in the area for 14 years, and have one son, Jackson, a 4th grader at Tamarac. Wertz values independent thinkers, strong citizenship, being fiscally responsible and empowering students as self-directed learners in our global society.

Judy WienmanJudy Wienman
Term: July 1, 2017 – May 17, 2020

Description:
I was born and raised in Illinois. I have lived in New York for 30 years, 10 of which have been in Brunswick. My wife is Rabbi Debora Gordon and together we adopted four children who attend Tamarac schools. I completed a masters degree from Illinois State University in English and went to work as a Business Agent for SEIU Local 73. I returned to school and completed a second masters from the University of Illinois Springfield where I trained as a family therapist. I am currently retired and part owner of a goat farm here in Brunswick.
