BOARD DISCUSSION

·        Mr. Abate asked the Board what items would the Board like the Finance Committee to review. No definite answers were decided upon.

·        Upcoming NYSSBA workshop – 12/5/06 – “Negotiation Impasses – Navigating the Course”

·        Mrs. McGrath informed the Board of the Penny Harvest fundraiser. Tamarac Middle School has been selected by the New York State Service Learning Leadership Institute to become participants in the Capital Region Penny Harvest Program.  The goal of the Penny Harvest Program is to teach students that they have the power to guide decisions that make a difference and impact the local community that they and their families live in.  This service learning experience will not only enable the students to participate fully in a comprehensive character education encounter, but will allow them to gain confidence by working with an entire group for the common cause of improving the community in which they are constantly involved in.

Throughout the month of November, students and families will work together to gather as many pennies as possible while also brainstorming ideas as to how the collected money can better the community.  Once the money is collected at school, it will be counted.  Each school that collects a minimum of $1,250.00 is awarded a roundtable, which is made up of students from the school and that roundtable is awarded $1,000.00.  The extra $250.00 is put into a kitty and applied to schools that have not met their goal.  This allows those schools to fully participate in the roundtable experience.  Together with input from the rest of the student body, Tamarac’s roundtable will be empowered to make decisions regarding how the money is given back to the local community.

·        Mrs. Jandali relayed a concern that was brought up at the last PTSA meeting in reference to limited visitor parking. Mr. Burnham responded that this issue is being addressed under the new capitol project.
