Brunswick CSD Announces the Top 10% for the Class of 2019

Top 10% studentsBrunswick Central School District is proud to announce the students in the top ten percent for the Class of 2019. This honor signifies that these students have achieved academic excellence during their years at Tamarac High School. Congratulations to Sofia Baldwin, Katherine Champagne, Kaylan Comenole, Francesca DiScanio, Ryan Hayden, Sara Kuiken, Nathaniel LaPlante, Isabella Realbuto, Giovanna Sestito and Riley Wilsey for their hard work and commitment to academics! Leading up to graduation, we will share more information about each of our top 10%.

Sofia BaldwinSofia Baldwin

Sofia is the daughter of Christie & James Baldwin of Cropseyville. She will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Sofia has been the recipient of The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence, the daVinci Award, State Archives Student Research Award, and the Alfred State College Excellence in Education Scholarship. Sofia is also enrolled in the New Visions Visual and Performing Arts Program. In addition to excelling in academics, Sofia has been a member of Band, Chorus, Student Senate, Olympics of the Visual Arts, National Honor Society and Yearbook Club. Outside of school, Sofia enjoys taking tap dance classes at The Isabelle School of Dance where she has participated in classes the last 17 years.

In the fall, Sofia is attending Alfred State College of Technology to study digital media and animation.

Katherine Champagne

Katherine is the daughter of Jane and David Champagne of Troy. She will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Katherine has been the recipient of the Booster Club Award, New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, State Archives Student Research Award, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, General Electric KidWind Competition National Qualifier and Athletic Scholarship Award. Katherine is also enrolled in the Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (ECHS) Program. In addition to excelling in academics, Katherine has been a member of National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, French Club, Chorus, Band, Varsity Soccer, Indoor Track and Captain of Outdoor Track and Field. Outside of school she has volunteered at Brunswick Soccer and Track and Cross-Country meets.

In the fall, Katherine is attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to study environmental engineering.

Kaylan ComenoleKaylan Comenole

Kaylan is the daughter of Sandra and Michael Comenole of Wynantskill. She will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Kaylan has been the recipient of the State Archives Student Research Award, the daVinci Award, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence and Boston University Richard D. Cohen Scholarship. Kaylan is also enrolled in the New Visions Medical Program. In addition to excelling in academics, Kaylan is a member of Band and Olympics of the Visual Arts.

In the fall, Kaylan is attending Boston University to study neuroscience/pre-med.

 

DiScanioFrancesca DiScanio

Francesca is the daughter of Tracey and Larry DiScanio of Troy. She will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Francesca has been the recipient of the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences, OMER Award (Odyssey of the Mind), The Connor Reynolds Creativity and Perseverance Award, the daVinci Award, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Class of 2019 Award and the University of New England University Scholars Award. In addition to excelling in academics, Francesca has served as President of Olympics of the Visual Arts, Vice President of Key Club, Secretary of Student Council, Treasurer of National Honor Society, Captain of the Varsity Volleyball team, a member of Odyssey of the Mind for grades 3-11 and stage crew for musical productions.

In the fall, Francesca is attending University of New England to study nursing.

Ryan Hayde Ryan Hayden

Ryan is the son of Kristina & Robert Hayden of Troy. He will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Ryan has been the recipient of the State Archives Student Research Award, YMCA Outstanding Student Award, Rensselaer Medal, NYS Assembly Service in Action Award, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, SEFCU Scholarship, Class of 2009 Award, Class of 2019 Award, New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence and the Florida Institute of Technology Panther Fund Academic Scholar. Ryan is also enrolled in the New Visions Stem Program. In addition to excelling in academics, Ryan serves as President of Class Council, President of National Honor Society, Vice President of Student Senate. He served as President of National Junior Honor Society, a member of Athletic Advisory Committee, SADD, Youth Activation Committee, stage crew for musical productions and served as official lines person for JV and Varsity Volleyball.

In the fall, Ryan is attending Florida Institute of Technology to study aeronautical science with flight.

sara kuikenSara Kuiken

Sara is the daughter of Melinda and Ronald Kuiken of Valley Falls. She will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Sara has been the recipient of the YMCA Outstanding Student Award, Dennae Hughes Memorial Award, State Archives Student Research Award, Society of Women Engineers Award, Ron Geuther Science Award, the Board of Education Award in Recognition of Service to School, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Class of 2009 Award, Class of 2019 Award and Utica College Presidents Scholarship and Awards. Sara is also enrolled in the New Visions Scientific Research and World Health Program. In addition to excelling in academics, Sara serves as President of Student Senate, Key Club, Project Happiness and Treasurer of SADD and Class Council. She is a member of Band, Chorus, Yearbook, Youth Activation Committee and National Honor Society. She has served as the 2018-19 student liaison to the Board of Education. Outside of School, Sara is a member of the Uncle Sam Swim team and plans to continue her swimming career in college.

In the fall, Sara is attending Utica College to study occupational therapy.

NAte LaPlanteNathaniel LaPlante

Nathaniel is the son of Abby Atkins and Keith LaPlante of Pittstown. He will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Nathaniel has been the recipient of State Archives Student Research Award, Athletic Scholarship Award, Outstanding Senior Athlete Award, Booster Club Award, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence and he placed third in the KidWind Challenge Regional. He is also enrolled in the Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (ECHS) Program. In addition to excelling in academics, Nathaniel has served as Treasurer of Student Council, is a member of Key Club, National Honor Society and is Webmaster/Bulletin Editor. He is Captain of the Varsity Baseball and Cross Country team and member of the Varsity Basketball team.

In the fall, Nathaniel is attending Purdue University to study engineering.

Isabella RealbutoIsabella Realbuto

Isabella is the daughter of Paula and Fredrik Realbuto of Troy. She will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Isabella has been the recipient of the Cheryl Wainwright Foster Scholarship, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Bentley University Dean’s Scholarship, SUNY Adirondack Competition 1st place award for Entrepreneurship and RIT Innovation and Creativity Award. She is also enrolled in the Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (ECHS) Program.  In addition to excelling in academics, Isabella has been a member of Athletic Advisory Committee, National Honor Society, Band and Captain of both the Tamarac Varsity Volleyball and her Club Volleyball team.

In the fall, Isabella is attending Bentley University to study business.

Giovanna SesittoGiovanna Sestito

Giovanna is the daughter of Mary and John Sestito of Pittstown. She will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with Honors.

Giovanna is the recipient of the George Eastman Young Leaders Award, NYS Assembly Service in Action Award, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Class of 2019 Award and Chapman University Dean’s Scholar. In addition to excelling in academics, Giovanna has served as Secretary of SADD and Yearbook, Treasurer of Key Club, Webmaster for Student Senate, and a member of Class Council, National Honor Society and Varsity fall Cheerleading.

In the fall, Giovanna is attending Chapman University to study Strategic and Corporate Communications.

rILEY wILSEYRiley Wilsey

Riley is the son of Tamara and Ray Wilsey of Pittstown. He will graduate with NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation.

Riley is the recipient of the R.I.T. Scholarship Award, PTSA Citizenship Award, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence and the College of St. Rose Trustees Award. In addition to excelling in academics, Riley has been a member of National Honor Society. Outside of school he enjoys filming and editing videos, playing music and writing short stories and scripts.

In the fall, Riley is attending the College of St. Rose to study Communications.
