Secondary Library Media Specialist Receives Award

Michelle Furlong wtih awardOn Wednesday, October 2 Michelle Furlong, the Secondary School Library Media Specialist, was presented with the “Deborah A. Escobar Historical Records Education in the Schools Award” by the Capital District Archives.

Ms. Furlong received this honor in recognition of her steadfast commitment to the educational use of historical records by teachers and students in New York State.  In addition to volunteering her time as a judge at the National History Day contest, providing essential feedback and support to students to enhance their research, Ms. Furlong has also worked closely with many different local historical societies, the NYS Archives and the Rensselaer County Clerk’s Office to connect students directly with original documents in the classroom. Over the past three years, several Tamarac Secondary School students have received state-wide awards for their research projects focusing on primary sources.
