On April 4, a group of students from Tamarac Elementary and High School competed in the Olympics of the Visual Arts (OVA) Competition in Saratoga Springs. The High School Painting Team won 3rd place and the Elementary Architecture Team also took 3rd place in their category.
The students are members of the school’s Olympics of the Visual Arts (OVA) Club which provides an opportunity for students to participate in individual or group artistic problem-solving. Ahead of the competition, a problem is released by NYSATA and students meet weekly to design a solution to the problem. The theme of the painting problem was to create a “believable” team portrait of how your painting team and you will look 50 years from now. The theme for the Architecture problem was to design an artist studio in a single shipping container.
Students from all over the state work on long-range solutions over several months at their schools and compete against one another during the day-long celebration of creativity.
