Tamarac Elementary held its Annual Teddy Bear Dressing Day on June 4 where first through second grade students dressed donated teddy bears and hugged them to fill the stuffed animals with comforting thoughts for the children who receive them.
After the Teddy bears were dressed and filled with love, hope and strength, they were sent off to the Double H Hole in the Woods Camp for campers who have or once were battling some type of illness.
This service learning project started years ago by teacher Ginny Hanby (now retired) who comes back to help with this heart-filled project year after year. The project continued by yet another amazing teacher, Mrs. Myers (now retired also) and it now continues with Sanda Bailey’s class. These teachers’ partnership with Bridging People Organization has helped Tamarac students get a glimpse of what it is like for other children suffering from these illnesses and truly defines what compassion means.
Special thanks to all students for their participation and to the knitters that donated sweaters and hats. See more photos here.
