Office of the Superintendent

October 25, 2020

Dear Tamarac Parents and Families:

This afternoon, the District was informed of a new positive test for a bus driver in our community. As per New York State Education Department and New York State Department of Health guidelines, the District has taken immediate steps to isolate the situation and notify the Rensselaer County Department of Health. The District is working closely with the County DOH and following all guidance provided by them moving forward. As stated in our previous communications, they will take the lead role in any further steps that may be necessary such as additional testing of individuals or contact tracing. In the event you are contacted by a representative of the County DOH or the District, we encourage you to offer your complete cooperation.

As a result of this new positive test and the recommendation of Rensselaer County Department of Health, Brunswick Central School District will go fully remote for ALL students, K-12, on Monday, October 26, 2020. This will give the District an opportunity to conduct a full, deep clean of all transportation vehicles and locations of movement. We will continue to share up-to-date information with you via email and district website updates, including potential future closures, as we navigate this development and follow all guidance provided by the County DOH and health officials.

Due to this change in remote learning plans for tomorrow, our IT department and I will be at the elementary school from 3:30 - 7:00 PM this evening for any student who DOES NOT have a personal device to attend classes remotely. Should you have any questions or intend to pick up a personal device this evening, please reach out to Eric Wetmore at ewetmore@brunswickcsd.org. Students and caregivers should look at their emails for information about the instruction tomorrow.

Thank you all, again, for your patience and support during these challenging times. We truly appreciate your understanding; please know that now and always, the District’s priority is protecting the health, welfare, and safety of students and staff while complying with any government orders and guidance related to the opening of schools. Please continue to check our district website and social media for updates on the situation.

Together, we will get through this, and together, we are #TamaracStrong.

Sincerely,

Dr. Angelina Maloney

Superintendent
