Red White and Blue Day

Dear Secondary School Families:

Happy Friday! Thanksgiving is less than a week away and there is much to be grateful for. I am extremely thankful that our school remains a safe place for students to learn and engage with their teachers and peers. Keeping our doors open is how we will best ensure that every child receives the quality education they deserve. Please help by completing the daily health screening (email covidhotline@brunswickcsd.org if you are not receiving it). In addition, if your child travels out of state for more than 24 hours, let us know and we will make temporary arrangements for continuity of instruction. We are all in this together!

We knew in September that this year would present unique challenges - we will continue to communicate, collaborate, and take things one day at a time.  I hope everyone enjoys the much needed break, good food and lots of quality time with family!

Emergency Remote Instruction Schedule: Attached you will find an emergency virtual bell schedule. This emergency schedule will only be implemented in the unfortunate event that our building is closed and all students must go fully remote. It does not replace any existing schedule. Highlights include an 8:00 am start, daily reduction in total time students are logged onto computers for classes, and “Office Hours” or extra help availability for students in all grade levels at the end of each day.  Teachers have been reviewing this schedule with students this week - we will of course let you know if we ever need to use it!

Free Tutoring! If your child is in need of additional academic support, RPI students are offering free “virtual” tutoring every Saturday through December 12 and again January 23-May 1. This opportunity is open to all Brunswick students K-12. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

National Jr. Honor Society: Our annual NJHS induction ceremony will be held this Monday at 9:00 a.m. Please mark your calendar! Unfortunately, visitors are still not permitted in the building, but our revised program will be offered live in a virtual format. It will also be recorded for our community to view at your leisure. We are very excited to induct twenty-two new 8th graders from the class of 2025! Assisting us will be NJHS members from the class of 2024! The ceremony will be followed by a reception for the honorees hosted by the Brunswick/Brittonkill PTSA. Thank you PTSA!

School Picture Makeup Day: Adirondack School Portraits will be coming back for picture makeup day on Monday 11/23. All students may have their picture retaken from 11:00 am -3:30pm in the high school gym. If you are dropping your child off, please remember that students will need to come inside alone - they should have their temperature taken and report directly to the high school gym. Please note, there is a $3 charge for anyone who needs their photos retaken for anything other than closed eyes.

Coats: The colder weather has arrived - we expect to see students wearing coats and heavier clothes to school. With lockers not permitted, students are permitted to carry coats to classes and hang them on the back of their chair. In some cases - depending on teacher discretion and available space, a students homeroom may be used for storage for the day.

Health/Wellness: **IMPORTANT** Please be sure to complete the daily screening survey before sending your child to school each morning. Your child should be kept home if they are experiencing any symptoms consistent with COVID. If your child’s symptoms are improving AND they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine, they may return to school with a note from their doctor with an alternate diagnosis clearing them to return to school OR a copy of their negative COVID test result. We appreciate your help in keeping our school safe for everyone!
