To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this letter finds you well. We are back in the swing of things after a delightful (at least weather-wise) April recess. We have now begun the fourth quarter with a return of a number of our students to in-person instruction, and report cards for 3rd quarter will be sent or mailed home today - look in backpacks if your child is an in-person instruction student for their report card.

Next up for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be our first New York State tests since 2019. The one-day English Language Arts assessment for these students will be this Tuesday, 4/20 for in-person instruction students only. The assessment is untimed, and all students will have the time they need to complete the test. Tests will be given in the morning, with each grade level starting their assessment at a separate time. Additionally, the New York State math tests for these same classes will be on Tuesday, May 4th in the morning and the 4th grade (only) science test will be on Tuesday, June 8th - more information will be forthcoming about these assessments. We have no capacity for remote instruction students to take these assessments unless they choose to attend in-person on the day of the assessment.

As we look toward the end of this school year, we are in the planning phases of end of the year events. What we are able to do will, of course, be dictated by the safety measures and guidelines from the local, state and national levels. I do hope, though, that some of our events are able to resemble events of the past. Everyone in our school community has worked hard to make this year feel the way we believe a school experience should. For the school year to be able to end looking like previous years have, would be a wonderful finish and compliment to our school and its community. Let's cross our fingers.

Sincerely, Rich Pogue
Principal, Tamarac Elementary School
