To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope you are enjoying this great day.  It was a perfect day for our first outdoor Moving Up Ceremony, with our kindergarten students having a wonderful event this morning.  It was such a nice ceremony, made better by the fact that for the first day all year, we could see the children's smiling faces, as masks were left behind once we got outside.  After all everyone has been through this year, it was a wonderful end for our youngest learners' first full academic year.  The 5th grade will have their Moving Up Ceremony on Monday, with a similar format to today's event.  It will differ in that, to allow for more family members to attend, there will be 3 separate ceremonies, done alphabetically, and by invitation only.  The first ceremony will begin at 9:15 that morning; the second at 10:30 and the third beginning at 11:45.  As we celebrate the end of one grade level's time with us, we will begin our screenings for next year's kindergartners.  If you have a child that is age eligible to begin school and you have not registered them, please do so as soon as possible.  Carol Petersen is handling kindergarten registration this year, and she can be reached at (518) 279-4600 Ext. 2403 with any questions.

Our final day of school will be this Thursday, June 24th.  It will be a half-day of attendance, with dismissal beginning around 11:25am and buses rolling out at 11:40am.  During this final morning, we will be sharing with students who their teacher will be for next year, and giving the students an opportunity to meet their teacher-to-be.  It should be a happy ending to this school year, which is clearly one of the most demanding school years any of us have faced.  Your kids did great this year - they were pure troopers and deserve credit for being so.  We are all looking forward to a more traditional-looking school year in the fall, but I'm sure the lessons we have learned from the challenges we faced this school year will serve us down the road.  Despite it all, learning took place and will continue to do so for our children.  Kindergartners, enjoy your summer.  See you in September.  Everyone else, see you on Monday.

Sincerely, Rich Pogue
Principal, Tamarac Elementary School
