To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this message finds you well on the morning of our first delay of the school year. This seems like a good time to remind parents to dress your child for the weather, especially with boots, snow pants and other cold weather gear. Unless the weather is very cold, very windy or raining, we will try to have outdoor recess, which is much more enjoyable for kids if they are dressed for the weather. Also, the district has posted an Inclement Weather Reminder at its website (brunswickcsd.org) for additional information on closings and delays.

Beginning in 2022, any email sent to an individual who does not have an @brunswickcsd.org email address will be encrypted. Encrypted emails are an increasingly important part of network security, ensuring that an email is protected in such a way that only the sender and the recipient can read what is in the email. This is especially important when an email from a school contains personally identifiable information, or “PII”. Examples of PII may include first and last names, email address, passwords, student IDs, home address, phone numbers, etc.

Encrypted emails received by parents will look a bit different than previous emails from school faculty and staff.  To read an encrypted email from school faculty or staff, you must open the email AND click the link provided within to “Unlock Message.”  You must click on the link to open the message to be able to read the full email message.  An example of an encrypted email from school faculty and staff opened on a mobile device (iPhone) is provided below:

I hope this information is useful and helps promote improved communications between the school and the community.

Finally, please understand that the staff and faculty of this building share the concerns about COVID that you may have, and we are working to ensure that this building remains a safe and effective place for instruction.  Our goal, since the start of this school year, is for in-person instruction - it is the way our students learn best. The educational decisions we make are informed by the scientific/medical information from our local health department and the NYS  Department of Health. We are doing as much as we can to keep students healthy and keep them learning.  We appreciate your support of our efforts, and your belief in our teachers and staff, as we address everchanging learning and health situations.

Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
