To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this update finds you well.  We are wrapping up our first semester of this school year, and have had a really good year so far.  We've been in-person for instruction every day and it looks and feels like we all hoped a school year would, especially after the last two years.

One of the important educational components for grades K-5 this year will be the personal safety lesson, which is part of Erin's Law.  Erin's Law requires all NYS public schools to teach students about child abuse and exploitation. This year, we will be partnering with educators from St. Peter's Health Partners to present this lesson, which are developmentally appropriate, research-based and utilize prevention research best practices.

A grade-specific lesson will be taught next between Monday and Thursday.  Kindergarten and 1st grade students will participate in a 30 minute lesson while grades 2-5 will be part of a 45 minute presentation.  More information has been sent home with students who will be participating in these presentations.

As much as I love snow, I'm kind of glad to see this weekend's bruiser keep closer to the coast.  Life with kids has me booked with their events this weekend; snowstorms like this just mess things up horribly, and no one likes a teenager who just had their weekend plans dashed.  If we get snow, stretch before you shovel.  If you're smarter than me, you'll stretch before you reach for your wallet to pay someone else to make it go away😀.

Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
