Dear Secondary School Families:
I hope this communication finds you and your family safe and with power restored to your home. I was in my office yesterday working when the storm quickly blew through and everything suddenly went dark. After waiting for a bit, the drive home was a labyrinth with downed trees and my driveway blocked. It reminded me of when I was a child and the October 4 storm of 1987 hit. Being young, I vividly remember celebrating the close of school for two days. Needless to say, my perspective is much different these days. 2020 continues to throw major curve balls our way, but I know we will come out on the other side of this year stronger than ever! Please continue reading for several very important updates:
School Closure Calendar Updates: When our Task Force committee created the quarter 1 calendar, we certainly did not anticipate any “snow days” this early in the year. However, in the event of a closure we decided that the best option for our families is to have some predictability during these highly unpredictable times. In the event that we miss a day of school, the calendar remains unchanged. As a result:
Friday, October 9 will remain a virtual day for all 7-12 students (6th grade in person).
Tuesday, October 13 will remain a “Blue Cohort” day, Wednesday, October 14 a “Red Cohort” day, etc...
Friday, October 9 will remain a “C” day on our “A-F” schedule
Please connect with your teachers regarding the due date for due dates on assignments.
Open House- Thank you to everyone who was able to participate in our open house program. If you were unable to attend, please check out pre-recorded videos from your teachers by clicking on the link below. The 7th grade team will also be sending out a separate video to parents who were unable to access the link. Please don’t hesitate to email if you have any follow up questions - the Secondary school teachers and administration are happy to help at any point!

School Picture Day(s): Adirondack School Portraits will be here for our annual school
picture event next week! Here is the plan for photos:
Tuesday, 10/13: 11th and 12th Grade (Blue Cohort Day)
Wednesday, 10/14: 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade (Red Cohort Day)
Thursday, 10/15: 9th and 10th Grade (White Cohort Day)
Fully Remote Students: May come into school (check-in at front desk) between 7:30 am-3:30 pm on Oct. 13th or 14th. The photographer will be in the building until 2:15 on October 15.
***There will be a window of time on October 13th and 14th from 2:15-3:30 pm after school day hours.
Picture Retake Day: November 23 from 11am -3:30pm.
Quarter 2 Mode of Instruction: If your child is fully remote, parents/guardians have until October 23 to notify the counseling department if there are any changes in your child’s mode of instruction (hybrid learning vs. remote). We will need this information to plan the cohort calendar and instructional space for the second marking period.
Weekly Calendar:
Mon. 10/12 = NO SCHOOL (COLUMBUS DAY) Tues.10/13 = BLUE DAY Wed. 10/14= RED DAY, Thurs 10/15 = WHITE DAY, Fri 10/16= BLUE DAY
Please note that Friday, October 16 will be a day of in-person instruction for 11th and 12th grade
The October Board of Education meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 14 at 7pm.
The three day weekend is always a welcomed opportunity to spend time with family and friends. The timing of this one could not be better following a very challenging week for our community. Please continue to look out for one another and stay safe! #TamaracStrong
Sincerely,
Ken Rizzo
Principal
Tamarac Secondary School

Dear Parents/ Guardians:
A reminder that this Friday, September 25 is a fully remote/virtual day of instruction for all students, including Grade 6. Attendance will be taken between 9:00-9:15 a.m. by logging into your period 1/homeroom class. Any hybrid student that does not log in on time will be marked as absent and will need to contact Alammerts@brunswickcsd.org if tardy. 100% fully remote students should email Lperfetti@brunswickcsd.org for attendance during the same window. 6th graders will be assigned independent work to complete by their teachers. Any 6th grade student that cannot log in for attendance should notify Ms. Muckle by Thursday to make other arrangements.
Sincerely,
Ken Rizzo
Principal
Tamarac Secondary School

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Due to safety concerns we are making a change to pick up location at the end of the day. Parents, please stay in the front parking lot. Students will be walked to the sidewalk behind the busses (center island walkway) and they can be picked up there. If your car is parked and your child is walking to you, please remind them to use the crosswalk directly across from the front entrance (we will also tell them this). This change is effective immediately and is especially important for our 6th grade parents who are here every day. Please make sure you are not parked in the bus loop, but in the parking lot. Thank you for your help!
Sincerely,
Ken Rizzo
Principal
Tamarac Secondary School

Good Morning, Tamarac! Today, we’d like to take a moment to give a special shoutout to Michele Blake. As the President of the Tamarac Booster Club, Michele has been an extraordinary leader. She has created an inspiring vision for the future, motivated those around her to engage in that vision and delivered on the vision each and every day. She has truly gone above and beyond to support our student athletes and their families as well as the entire student body and our community. As you know, these are volunteer positions that require a significant amount of personal time to do the job and do it well. To highlight just a few of Michele’s accomplishments this year, she was instrumental in the Hall of Fame revitalization, launching the Bengal Bistro, recognition of our Athletes, Coaches, Officials and Administration, donations to the Back Pack Program and Food Pantry, coordination of the Coach Jones Tribute and organization of the Athletic Award Pick Up Day. Thank you for your continued commitment and dedication Michele. We appreciate you!
