Tamarac Middle-High School Opening Letter from Principal Rizzo

August 24, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardians and Students:

The opening of the 2020-21 school year is only a few short weeks away. The reopening of schools has been a lengthy process and a cause for many different emotions - relief, excitement and apprehension just to name a few.  We recognize that the start to this year will be unusual - buses, schedules, hallways, classrooms, and extracurricular events will look and feel different. Change is not always easy, but we are working hard to embrace it and ensure that this school year will be a safe, positive, and academically engaging experience for every student. We will continue to put our best foot forward and work in partnership with our families and  community. Together, we can accomplish anything! #TamaracStrong! #BengalPride!

The last few weeks of summer are a very busy time. Here is a list of important dates/events for grades 6-12:

  • Monday, August 31: Student schedules will go live in eSchool and open for access to all families.

  • Tuesday, September 1: Hardcopies of student schedules will be mailed home to every student. Please note that due to hybrid scheduling, this is a temporary change from previous years when students would receive hardcopies in homerooms. Included in your mailing packet will be the Red, White, and Blue cohort calendar for the first quarter only.

  • Wednesday, September 2: Student forums for reopening of school.

  1.  9:30 -10:15 am:  Virtual grade 6 student orientation. This is for students to meet their teachers and ask questions about the transition to middle school and the new school year

  2. 10:30-11:30 am: Virtual grades 7-12 student orientation. This is for students to ask questions about hybrid learning and the new school year.

  • Wednesday, September 9: Grade 6 orientation for parents. This will be held virtually at 2:30 pm.

  • Friday, September 11: The first day of school. Here is the plan for 6-12 students signed up for in-person learning. For students enrolled in remote learning, more information will be forthcoming as we continue to plan for how this method of instruction will be delivered.

  1. 6th grade: Report to homeroom and attend classes in-person.

  2. Red cohort (7th & 8th): Report to homeroom and attend classes in-person on this day.

  3. White cohort (9th and 10th): Hybrid learning on this day. Students will log in for homeroom/period 1 and follow their daily schedule (period by period attendance taken).

  4. Blue cohort (11th and 12th grade): Hybrid learning on this day. Students will log in for homeroom/period 1 and follow their daily schedule (period by period attendance taken).

Thank you for your patience and continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Sincerely,

Ken Rizzo, Principal
