Dear Secondary School Families:

Happy New Year! I hope you had a great holiday recess and 2021 is off to a healthy and happy start. I find it’s nice to know that we gain a little bit more daylight each day as we move through January and into the latter half of winter. Hopefully you already saw the update that went out earlier in the week regarding options for your child’s mode of instruction for quarter 3. The enrollment window is now open if you would like to request a change from fully remote to in-person/hybrid instruction. The window closes on Friday, January 15. That will give us about a week before the third quarter begins to ensure every section in the middle school and high school meets DOH and NYSED standards for health and safety. Many of our classes have already been moved to large spaces such as the auditorium, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and the LGI space. Our students and staff continue to be incredibly flexible, but it is important that each student is locked into either hybrid or remote learning for a minimum of 10 weeks. When Spring arrives we will again reevaluate our in-person section requests and available spaces with state and health department guidance. Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we navigate through this challenging year together!

Quarter 3 Cohort Calendar: Please see the attached quarter 3 cohort calendar. Quarter 3 begins on Monday, January 25 and concludes on Friday, April, 2. We will also be mailing a color copy of the calendar home to you for your refrigerator!

PTSA SOUPer Bowl!: The PTSA is the backbone of our school. It supports programs and activities for over 1100 students in our district. It is proud to announce the 4th annual SOUPer Bowl. With Covid they had to switch things up a bit this year. The PTSA would like to buy each teacher/staff lunch if they can reach their fundraising goal. Every staff member that gets sponsored will receive lunch from B-Rad’s Bistro. Thank you in advance for supporting our PTSA, our staff, and this great event!

Hat Day(s) Fundraiser: Due to the switch to remote learning right before the break, our White Cohort hat day fundraiser has been rescheduled for Monday, January 11. Our Blue Cohort hat day will take place on Tuesday, January 12. Any student in the building (and staff) may donate a dollar and wear a hat in school on Monday and Tuesday.  Students will receive a special stamp indicating they are participating when they enter the building each morning. The money raised will be donated to a local nursing home and animal shelter. We are also collecting donated items through Wednesday. Please see the attached list of items being accepted. We got off to a great start in December and want to finish strong!

.Health/Wellness: **IMPORTANT** Please be sure to complete the daily screening survey before sending your child to school each morning. Your child should be kept home if they are experiencing any symptoms consistent with COVID. If your child’s symptoms are improving AND they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine, they may return to school with a note from their doctor with an alternate diagnosis clearing them to return to school OR a copy of their negative COVID test result. We appreciate your help in keeping our school safe for everyone!
