Building Your Child's Reading Skills at Home

Wednesday, March 3rd @ 6:00PM - 7:30PM

Join us to learn strategies that any family can use to support early reading skills at home.  Turn the everyday activities you already do with your young children into extra supports for their reading and vocabulary development.  The more they hear it, the more they learn!

This session is intended for family members of children ages 3 through 8.

Understanding Diploma and Credential Options for Students with Disabilities

 This session covers graduation and exiting credential options for students with disabilities including: Superintendent Determinations, 4+1 Pathway, Appeals Process, Local Diploma Options, Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS), Commencement Credential and Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential. We will keep you posted regarding the most current diploma and credential updates.

CPSE to CSE Transition for Families

This workshop will help family members to understand the transition process, to be an active member of the transition team, to understand the difference between services in CPSE and CSE, and to understand the purpose of an IEP. Parents will come away from this workshop with a better understanding of what to expect as their children move on to kindergarten.

EI to CPSE Transition for Families

Friday, March 26th @ 9:30AM - 11:00AM

This workshop will help family members learn to:

  • Identify the important steps in the process; and
  • Understand the changes to expect and critical decision to be made.

The session will take a detailed look at the similarities and differences between Early Intervention Program and the Preschool Special Education Program in New York State. Parents participating in this workshop will be well prepared for the transition and have a better understanding of their role in the process.

Parent Member of the CPSE/CSE Training

Join us to gain a better understanding of the role and the requirements of the Parent Member and the Special Education Process as per Part 200 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.  Participants will acquire techniques and strategies to become an effective participant in the CPSE/CSE process. This training is for current and prospective Parent Members and anyone who is interested in gaining a better understanding of the Parent Member role and the CPSE/CSE process.

Transition Planning for Life After High School: An Introduction to the Process

Parents, guardians, family members, and community partners are invited to attend this workshop to learn more about working with their CSE to collaboratively:

  • Assess their child's strengths interests, and needs; 
  • Establish measurable post-secondary goals and annual goals; and

Agency 101: Navigating Adult Services

Tuesday, April 27th @ 6:00PM - 7:30PM

 Join us for a general overview of primary adult services. Participants will learn to recognize the eight components of self-determination and will better understand how to promote self-determination throughout the transition planning process. Participants will learn about the various adult services in NYS and will better understand the services provided by each, as well as their related eligibility, referral, and application processes.
