To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this email all of you well. Things are moving right along here at Tamarac. We have just wrapped our first set of New York State testing, the English Language Arts tests for grades 3, 4 and 5 - everything went very smoothly. Most of the students completed their assessment in about an hour; a few took longer but no one had to resume testing after lunch. Overall, this was a successful testing event, which will help with our building-wide academic planning for the upcoming school years.

Next up for our students will be the New York State Math test for the same grades. This assessment will be given in the morning on Tuesday, May 4th. Each grade level will have its own starting time, with the testing taking place in the classroom. These tests are not timed, and students may take as much time as they need. The testing window for this exam goes through May 14th, in case we have some students unable to test on our designated day. Fourth graders will take a one-day written test in Science in June. This test previously had a performance, or lab, section to it; this is not the case this year.

Our 5th grade classes celebrated today with a zero points party, a reward for exceptional behavior as a grade level. Nice job, Grade 5!

Future updates will have more information about end of the year events for all students and planning for the next school year. Everything will, of course, be determined by guidance and conditions on the ground at that time.  May is around the corner. So much is still ahead for our kids.

Sincerely,
Rich Pogue, Principal
