To the families of Tamarac Elementary School, greetings from the Elementary School.  We have had another great week of school - the kids are doing a great job throughout the building, and I never get tired of seeing them just being kids when they are here.  After last year, it feels like a luxury to just be able to have a traditional looking school and school day.

I'd like to send a big thank you out to the Brittonkill PTSA and the Character Education Committee for hosting a fantastic Welcome Back picnic.  It was a beautiful evening filled with smiles, laughter and ... balloon art!  This was a wonderful kick-off to the school year.

The breakfast routine has been very popular this year, but that means that it is taking longer for everyone to get breakfast than we would like, especially our youngest learners.  Starting on Monday, 1st graders will be picking up breakfast, like students in grades 2, 3, 4 and 5, as they enter the building and then going to their classroom to eat.  Pre-K and kindergartners will still come to the cafeteria from class to eat breakfast in the cafeteria - don't worry, we will all be outside reminding students of the change in our routine.

The following is a reminder from the Health Offices of both buildings:

Please go into Family ID (a link is on the front page of the district website) and complete your child's emergency card as soon as possible.  Imbedded in that document is an Over the Counter (OTC) form that must be printed and medications checked/signed and then uploaded back into Family ID or printed and returned the Health Office with your student. We are not able to administer OTC medications without this form.

Please do not send your child to school if they are sick with any of the COVID symptoms (cough, sore throat, headache, fever, diarrhea/vomiting, runny nose or loss of taste/smell.  If a child complains of any of these symptoms, we are obligated to send them home.  Additionally, please be sure that there is a responsible adult available to pick up a sick child from school within 30-40 minutes of our call.  We are not able to isolate sick children for any longer than this.  If you have any questions, please contact the Elementary Health Office at 279-4600 Ext. 2012.

Finally, our next upcoming event will be our virtual Meet the Teachers Night on October 7th - information will be forthcoming from your child's teacher.  Enjoy this first weekend of Fall.

Sincerely, Rich Pogue and Kelly Onorato
