Dear Secondary School Families:

We are approaching a very exciting time of the year for our children and community - Halloween! Going back many years, the Secondary School has held an annual dress up day event in October. Staff often jumped in on the spirit of Halloween with the students. We plan to continue this tradition on Friday, October 29.  It is otherwise a regular school day and core instruction will take place; we ask for student cooperation to ensure a fun and safe event for everyone.  I am attaching the guidelines for the day to this update - we would be very appreciative if you would review with your child at home. Thank you for your continued support. Photos forthcoming next week!

Counseling Center Spotlight: I recently mentioned that it wouldn’t be long before our ms/hs counseling center would be firing on all cylinders. Off the heels of the College Caravan, Ms Collins, Ms. Ryan, and Ms. Fulgan have been quite busy. Check out the fantastic opportunities that are upcoming!

1. Application Completion Week (October 25-29): Seniors are encouraged to make appointments with their individual counselor or just drop into the office to work on their college applications. Our counselors are here to help!

2. Financial Aid Night (Thursday, November 4 @ 6pm): A representative from RPI’s office of financial aid will host a virtual presentation for students and families. The rep will answer questions about the FAFSA and CSS profile. Juniors and seniors are invited to participate.

3. Hudson Valley Instant Decision Day: Tuesday, November 2nd. Any students interested in applying to Hudson Valley Community College should use this opportunity to complete their applications so they can get an admissions decision on the spot that day!

Polar Plunge:

The Youth Activation Committee, also known as YAC, is a high school club consisting of students with and without intellectual disabilities who plan activities that promote and advocate for respect, inclusion, and acceptance for all people. Our YAC works closely with Special Olympics to create a more socially inclusive school climate through various activities such as the Polar Plunge, the Spread the Word campaign, and the Unified Basketball program. This year, we will be participating in the Lake George Polar Plunge.  The money raised from this event will go towards the Special Olympics which sponsors our club and the Unified Basketball team.  We have a team of approximately 30 plungers attending this year and have set a donation goal of $3000.

Would you be willing to donate to support our team?  Your support will directly affect the ability for Special Olympic NY athletes to participate in training, activities, and competitions at no cost to them or their caregivers.  With your donation, you can help the athletes get safely back in the game!

If you would like to sponsor our Polar Plunge team, checks can be made out to Tamarac YAC and should be received by October 31st. If you’d prefer to make an online donation, you can find us by going to www.events.nyso.org/2021lakegeorge.  Just type TamaracYAC in the “search teams” box.

If you have any questions or if you would like a donation receipt, please contact our advisor, Ryanne Phillips, at rphillips@brunswickcsd.org or (518)279-4600 x1501. This year, we would like to support the Special Olympics and meet our goal of $3000, so any donation would be greatly appreciated.

  • A final reminder that the school physicals completed by your own physician must be submitted prior to October 27. Any student who has not had a physical will have a physical done by our school physician.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Health Office at 518 279-4600 Ext. 2426.

The daylight hours may be waning but we have had quite the moon this week. Even in the morning the views on Farm to Market road are incredible driving to school. Enjoy your weekend and family time together!

Sincerely,

Ken Rizzo
