To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this update finds you well. We are in a lull between state tests for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders; NYS math testing for these grades will begin on Tuesday, April 26th and wrap up on Wednesday, April 27th. Make-ups will take place after that. More reminders will come out before our April recess. By the way, the kids did a wonderful job with the first round of assessments in ELA. We don't have results yet, but our students approached the tests seriously and truly tried their best.

We are so glad to be welcoming parent volunteers and visitors back to Tamarac Elementary School. Recently, parents have been joining us in person bit-by-bit for meetings, special events (Concerts, Mystery Readers, Kindergarten Parent Information Night) and special class projects/presentations.  We are looking forward to more opportunities to welcome our elementary parents and community members in the upcoming months.  Stay tuned!

We have a few reminders for parents and community members regarding visits and volunteer opportunities. In order to maintain an appropriate instructional environment and ensure the safety of all students, visitor/volunteer events that occur during the school day are arranged by the classroom teacher and communicated to parents and the main office prior to the event. All visitors and volunteers arriving during the school day must report to the main office to sign in and receive a visitor badge.  All visitors must also exit through the main office doors to sign out.  This is a critical component to ensuring school building safety.  Schoolwide events occurring after school hours are typically communicated to parents and community members through various methods including the district website, newsletters, notices sent home with students, and social media.

We will be finalizing our end of the year calendars after we return from April recess.  At this point, we are tentatively planning on pre-K wrapping up their school year on Friday, June 10th and kindergarten students on Thursday, June 16th.  The 5th grade Moving Up ceremony is planned for Friday, June 17th, although the 5th grade's final day of attendance is scheduled for Thursday, June 23rd, which will be a half-day at this time.

Warmer days are just around the corner.  Enjoy the weekend.

Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
