Dear Secondary School Families:

Welcome May! The weather looks to be on the verge of making a major shift towards more summer-like conditions  next week. The arrival of warmer weather means we are approaching the stretch run of the school year.  Today is the interim point of the 4th marking period. Interim reports will be available on the parent portal next Friday.  Next Friday is also Tamarac’s Junior/Senior Prom at the Old Daley on Crooked Lake from 6-10pm. A reminder that we will be dismissing all Secondary level students at 10:32am. Have a wonderful weekend!

Library: There is a new opportunity for high school students starting on Tuesday, May 10th. The library will be open everyday after school for students to voluntarily come to have a place to do work.  It is also available for athletes who would rather be in a quiet space instead of the cafeteria while they are waiting for practice.  The students just have to come see Mrs. Furlong at any point during the day to sign up for a pass to stay after. The students will be able to take the elementary bus home at 3:30

Lost and Found: Please see the attached memo from our Life Skills Classroom about Lost and Found:

Erin’s Law Presentation: In 2019, NY State became the 37th state to adopt Erin’s Law into legislation. On May 25th and 26th our middle school students will have a guest presenter from St. Peter’s Healthcare Partners speak with them about personal safety. This presentation is part of Erin’s Law - a New York State requirement for schools to make K-8 students aware of personal safety and what to do if they feel unsafe. We want to encourage parents to have open dialogue with your child on this topic. Please reach out to your child’s counselor if you have any questions.

6-8 State Assessment Data: Each spring we reach out to parents to encourage participation in 3-8 ELA, math, and science testing. State assessments provide us with important information that we use to support your child and to evaluate our instructional practices and programming. This data is also important for parents/guardians to monitor your child’s academic progress. If you are a parent/guardian of a current 7th-9th grader who took last year's exams, please email your counselor if you would like a copy of the report. (kryan@brunswickcsd.org, sfulgan@brunswickcsd.org, or pcollins@brunswickcsd.org). Each report is specifically geared for parents/guardians and contains very helpful information.

HVCC Summer Enrichment: Hudson Valley Community College will be offering Head Start Courses in Math and Writing this summer at no cost to students.  Both programs are designed to give students the chance to brush up on these skills, and learn about the college and our academic resources. Students can choose an online or in-person session.  The online session will run from July 5 through August 12.  In-person courses will run on weekdays from August 15 through 25.

Attached is a flyer with more information.   You may contact the office of Community & Professional Education with questions  at 518-629-7339 or communityed@hvcc.edu.
