To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this update finds you well. Our grade 3-5 New York State English Language Arts assessments will begin next Tuesday for our building. There is testing on both Tuesday and Wednesday. These tests are untimed this year, so students will be afforded as much time as they need to complete the assessments. Please ensure that your child gets a good night's sleep the night before, and breakfast the morning of the tests.

We would like to remind families of entering kindergartners that our Kindergarten Parent Information Night will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 7 PM in the district auditorium.  We will provide an overview of what to expect in kindergarten and provide you with some information on registration and screening procedures.

Our Read for Ronald McDonald House program has come to a close. A volunteer from Ronald McDonald House will be picking up all envelope donations from students who participated in the Read for Ronald McDonald House program. If you haven’t already done so, please turn in your envelopes or make your online donations. We will have an update with the final tally in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned!

While we are encouraged by some relaxation in COVID protocols, particularly masking, we would like to take the opportunity to clarify that there are still steps in place that must be followed when students exhibit symptoms consistent with COVID-19 symptoms. These symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea.

If your child displays any of the above symptoms, we strongly encourage you to test your child for COVID-19.  If your child tests negative, they are permitted to come to school if they are well enough to do so (and have been fever free for 24 hours).  If you choose not to test your symptomatic child, or if your child tests positive for COVID-19, the child:

  • Must remain home from school for at least 5 days following onset of symptoms;

  • Must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medication and other symptoms are improving; and

  • Must wear a mask for days 6 through 10 upon return to school.

We understand that in this ever-evolving situation, it is not always clear what your next step should be when your child develops symptoms.  If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, you may contact the school nurse, Jamie Baksa at (518) 279-4600 or jbaksa@brunswickcsd.org to talk through appropriate next steps.  If you need at-home tests, please let us know. They are available from the school.

Thank you for your attention to this information and ongoing partnership to promote a safe and healthy learning environment in our schools.

Enjoy this weeked.

 Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue, Tamarac Elementary School Administration
