Dear Secondary School Families:

Happy Friday! We will close out the month of October with Halloween on Monday. We are very much looking forward to the costumes and spooky fun for dress up day. Please take one last look at the guidelines for this event with your child: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZV2gKUbU4QG9xYXGesG180guuGcxifnaxUMJJyACBQE/edit. Stay tuned for photos next week!

Next Friday is also the end of the first marking period. This is an important week for students to reach out to their teachers for support, particularly if they have been absent and/or are missing assignments. Looking a little further ahead on the calendar:

  • Tuesday, November 8: Half day of school for students (10:32am dismissal).

  • Thursday, November 10: Emergency Go Home Early Drill. The Secondary School will be dismissing students at 2:00pm.

  • Friday, November 11: Veterans Day (No School)

Have fun and please be safe if your family is venturing out in search of some sweets on Monday night!

Clay Target League: This week I had the pleasure of visiting with the Tamarac Clay Target League for the final competition. Trap is one of the fastest growing and safest sports in the country. The sport consists of shooting a flying clay disc traveling at speeds up to 50 mph.  Our team has reached FIRST place in their New York State Division, with three Tamarac students placing in the top 10 overall in the conference - an impressive performance! Thank you to Brunswick Sportsmans Club for hosting the team. Congratulations to Coach Furlong, Coach Frank and all of the players on a very successful inaugural fall season!

Emergency Notification Test:

The Brunswick CSD Cafeteria: A reminder that families can still submit applications for free and reduced  meals. The application can be found here:  https://brunswickcsdfoodservice.org/.  Please contact our Food Service Director, Joy Wright with any questions jwright@brunswickcsd.org

Greetings from the Life Skills Crew: Many new clothing items have been added to the lost and found website. Three large bags just came over from the bus garage of items left on both the ms/hs bus runs and the elementary bus runs. We also made a trip to the elementary school recently to retrieve more items from there. Everything from the bus garage is on its own slideshow in both the ms/hs and elementary websites.

Sneaker Drive Fundraiser: A reminder that the Brittonkill PTSA is holding an athletic shoe drive fundraiser to raise money for Tamarac Secondary Students. BPTSA will earn funds based on the total quantity of gently worn, used, and new sneakers collected. GotSneakers, a social enterprise, will issue funds in compensation for the collected sneakers. We kindly ask you not to send any non-athletic footwear including but not limited to dress shoes, heels, rain boots, sandals, slip-ons, water socks, wedges, and work boots of any kind. To make your donation simply bring in your gently used sneakers to the secondary office starting Monday, 10/24/22.  Look for the sneaker box and drop them in!

Spirit Wear: The PTSA has launched a spirit wear store for our students and families (one for Elementary, and one for Secondary). Secondary School students and families can shop here: https://1stplacespiritwear.com/schools/NY/Troy/Tamarac+High+School

School Picture Make Ups: Adirondack School Portraits will be returning for make ups on Monday, December 5. Any 6-12 student in need may get their picture taken during lunch periods (10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.).

Sincerely,

Ken Rizzo
