Dear Secondary School Families:

I hope the new year is off to a healthy and happy start! It’s been an unusually mild start to the month of January. I’ll let you decide which picture below is a better depiction…

Personal Safety Training & Alumni Panel: This week our counseling center organized two very important presentations for our seniors.  St. Peter’s Health Partners delivered an interactive dialogue on preventative education and community engagement.  Students also participated in an alumni panel discussion about college and life after Tamarac. Thank you to St. Peter’s Health Partners and our alumni panelists for taking the time to meet with our students. Our panelists included:

  • Isabelle Pucci, Class of 2022

  • Ally Hasty, Class of 2022

  • Elizabeth Elting- Class of 2021

  • Katie Rotondi- Class of 2021

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day: In recognition of the important role that law enforcement plays in our community, Brunswick CSD will be hosting Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Monday, January 9th. Rensselaer County Sheriff and NY State Troopers are invited to stop into the Secondary building and eat lunch with students between 10:30am and 12:45pm. Parents/guardians in law enforcement may eat lunch with their children during their lunch period. Lunch will be provided for our guests courtesy of the Brittonkill PTSA. We kindly ask that reservations be made in advance using the document below:

CTE Visitation Day: Questar III’s Robert Gibson Technical School will be holding its District Visitation Day for prospective students on Tuesday, January 10th. Prospective students from Brunswick will be visiting the campus in the morning. A reminder that there will be no Career and Technical Education and Career Studies classes on that day.

Class Rings: Class Advisors for the class of 2025 will be meeting with sophomores for a presentation on Tuesday, January 10th at 9 am. A sales representative from Jostens will be here to talk to students  and distribute information and/or forms to students. Please be on the lookout for ordering forms and information coming home Tuesday afternoon.

January Regents Exams: January Regents are right around the corner. Attached you will find the schedule for the week of 1/24-1/27/23. All 11th grade students will be taking the ELA (English Language Arts) Regents exam on the morning of 1/24/23 (doors open at 7:45am). Students taking the ELA Regents will be allowed to go home when the exam is over (students will need their own transportation). All other classes will be held on a regular bell schedule that week.

Student Parking: With the second semester quickly approaching and our construction project complete, we will be opening up additional student parking for juniors. Juniors interested in parking may see Ms. Lammerts in the middle school office starting on Monday to pick up a parking application (a digital copy is also provided below). All applications are due back no later than Thursday, January 19th. A limited number of parking passes will be approved to park beginning on January 24. Juniors seeking a pass should be in good academic standing and be able to demonstrate a need for a pass (transportation to Career Tech or other academic programs will be given priority). Students may be asked to provide documentation to verify their individual circumstances. A reminder that all student parking is facing Route 2. Depending on the number of requests, there will be a waiting list for another round of passes to be provided in March once we assess all available spaces on our campus including those set aside for our Elementary staff and families.
