To the families of Tamarac Elementary School,

I hope this update finds you well and preparing for our really long weekend.  Thank you, not-so-snowy Winter!  Just to clarify, our next day of school attendance will be Wednesday, June 1st.

Our end of the year calendar has been updated, and our changes will affect our youngest learners.  Pre-K and kindergarten students will now be in attendance until Thursday, June 23rd, as will all of our other students.  Friday, June 17th and Thursday, June 23rd (our last day) are both half-days; we will begin dismissal at 11:25am on these days.  These changes in attendance do not affect planned Moving Up ceremonies for the Pre-K and kindergarten classes - Pre-K will still celebrate with a ceremony on Friday, June 10th, and kindergartners are all set for their Moving Up ceremony on Thursday, June 16th.  Both pre-K and kindergarten students may leave school with their families once their ceremony is complete.  Pre-K or kindergarten parents whose children attend Before or After Care may need to contact Carol G. to attend on these days, as your child may not be scheduled at this time.

On Monday, our second graders went on a thing called a "field trip" - I had to look up what that meant, since it had been so long since I'd heard that word! The trip to MiSci in Schenectady, organized by the second grade teachers, and supported by parents and parent chaperones, went off very smoothly and was a wonderful experience for our students.  If you are looking for an informative trip with your family, you can't do much better than MiSci.  So much science and history wrapped up in a planetarium and a working museum; it's a little gem in our community.

Our Grade 3-5 Spring Concert, in person for the first time in a few years, was a rousing success - the students did a wonderful job.  Thanks go out to Mr. Siegenthaler and Mr. Barcomb for their direction, planning and organization of the evening, as well as to Mrs. Kate Siegenthaler for her piano accompaniment of the vocal groups.  Thanks also go out to the chaperones, greeters and the Brittonkill Friends of Music, whose continued support bolsters our performing groups.  Please consider becoming a member; more information can be found at the Brittonkill Friends of Music page on Facebook.

Our 4th graders completed the New York State Science test yesterday - they've been great about participating in the State assessments. Now it's time for us all to recharge to get ready for the home stretch of the school year.  Enjoy this weekend and remember those who have lost their lives in the service of our country.

Sincerely, Kelly Onorato and Rich Pogue
