Last month, the 5th grade class had a special presentation from NYS Environmental Conservation Police Officer Chris Doroski. He shared a fascinating slideshow about his role in the community, and showed students the many facets to the job- including animal rescue/rehabilitation, bear management, and environmental quality checks.
This week, fifth graders also had a special presentation from Broadview Federal Credit Union. The presenters taught students about needs vs. wants, and goods vs. services. Then, students participated in a simulation where they had to budget money while completing a list of expenses. Everyone got to experience the role of a shopper and a store owner, and students were even challenged to donate to charity and save some money in their own accounts.
The fifth graders enjoyed both presentations, and greatly appreciated our guests' time!

Check out some amazing things they are doing in Spanish/World Languages!
Spanish 7: Students researched interesting facts about Panama and made a slideshow presentation with a theme (food, culture, history, music or destinations). They then shared this info with the class who could ask questions about the country.
World Languages 6: Students learned the song "Billy la bufanda" ("Billy the Scarf") by Señor Wooly during their clothing unit. We played a game with Billy in which students passed him-around and talked about their outfits in Spanish.
