Challenging behaviors can lead to safety concerns for individuals with autism, their siblings, their parents, and community members. This workshop will focus on proactive strategies to address safety at home, in the car, and in the community. Nicole Simon will also discuss how to develop a safety plan to help manage crisis situations.

Following this presentation participants will be able to:
1) Identify at least three common safety concerns for autistic individuals in the home, car, and community settings.
2) Describe at least two evidence-based tools or strategies that can be used to enhance safety for autistic individuals in each of the following settings: home, car, and community.
3) Identify at least three resources that support safety planning and risk mitigation for autistic individuals across all three settings.

Presenter Bio:
Nicole Simon, EdM, LABA, BCBA
Senior Behavioral Consultant, Lurie Center for Autism

Ms. Simon is a behavior analyst with over 25 years of experience using the applied behavior analysis (ABA) framework to care for children and adults with autism spectrum and related disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and severe challenging behaviors in home, school, residential, hospital, and community settings. She has a Master of Education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education specializing in Risk and Prevention.
